1. Frozen vegetables store much better than finding mushy vegetables in your crisper drawer because you didn’t have time to make them or you just forgot they were there.

2. Did you know that food suppliers typically freeze veggies just a few hours after they harvest them, which locks in the nutrients. Therefore, frozen veggies just may have greater nutritional value than fresh. Fresh veggies often spend days in the back of a truck even before they reach your supermarket.

3. Worried about transfat in peanut butter. Look for the brands that state there is no trans fats on the label.

4. Worried about trans fats when cooking in margarine. Smart Balance has no trans fats and other margarines may be coming out since people are hearing trans fats are not good for our bodies.

5. Fresh fruits are a great way of getting fiber and calming that sweet tooth. Too much can cause a sweet craving.

Five Reasons Why You Will Gain Health Benefits By Exercising

Are there easy tips and tricks to losing weight by exercising?

1. Overeating is not a side effect of exercising. Vigorous exercise is not going to stimulate you to overeat. You may want to drink more water, but not overeat. Usually it is just the opposite. Exercise, even for a short time, helps curb your appetite immediately after a workout.

2. When you are exercising don’t wait until you feel thirsty and you then go for a drink. By the time you feel thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. What is good to do is drink at least 16 ounces of water 2 hours before you exercise. You can drink sports drinks or juice but why pack on the calories before you exercise. Then drink 8 ources an hour before and another 4 to 8 ounces every 15-20 minutes during your workout. The higher impact your workout is, the more important it is to drink every 15-20 minutes. Finish with at least 16 ounces after your done with your exercise routine.

3. If you are working out at the gym on the treadmill or step machine, tune into your mp3 player or ipod. If you go for a walk, tune into the music or motivational music or speakers to help keep you going longer and motivating you to look forward to your next walk.

4. Do you think Yoga is too soft to burn calories? Think again. You can burn 250 to 300 calories during a one hour class. That is just about how much you would burn from a one hour walk. Yoga also helps improve muscle strength, flexibility and endurance.

5. Did you know that dehydration can slow down your metabolism by about 3% or burns 45 fewer calories a day. Keep your body hydrated by drinking at least 6-8 glasses of fluid a day, preferably water. If you are prone to heart disease, discuss this with your doctor. The key to water is how frequently you drink it during the day. Small amounts sipped during work is better than gulping down an 8 ounce fluid cup.

Five Quick Weight Loss Tips and Avoiding Extra Holiday Pounds

Are there any easy weight loss tips to help me lose weight faster and avoid those extra holiday pounds?

1. Telling yourself that it’s okay, it’s the holidays, opens the door to weeks of splurging. You think that you can control 1 days of binging and then going back to eat healthier? You answer that question.

2. It is a good idea to EAT before you meet at parties. Eat a hard-boiled egg, apple, water, seltzer, tea to help decrease your appetite so when you get to the party, your eyes are not bigger than your stomach.

3. This may sound obvious but don’t stand near the food at parties. Have a seat away from the food. Get up and dance. That expression “out of sight, out of mind” does work.

4. Do you eat at buffets? If you eat a little of everything almost guarantees you will be eating a lot of high calorie foods. Try and decide on 3 or 4 things, which only one is high calorie. Save the high calorie food for last so there’s less chance of you overeating.

5. During the holidays, wear your snuggest or tightest clothes and won’t give you room for much expansion. Save the sweats until January when the holidays are over.
